Idol 2018

Yesterday night when I couldn’t sleep, something was scratching at the back of my mind as I was thinking about my blog. So this morning I checked – and yes, I still owe you a story, a promise I only fulfill today.
So here’s the story about my idol from Liverpool.

It was at the end of March when my personal journey began – at that point I was not yet aware of that fact. Towards a Collaborative Practice (TCP 2018), a conference addressing topics like sustainability and social entrepreneurship, which I was lucky enough to attend. I still remember the evening of the opening. My roommate was not yet there, so I walked alone into the dining room, not knowing anyone, slightly nervous. We were sitting at round tables, 8 or 9 strangers from all over the world. Most were talking a lot (myself included), introducing themselves. Only one young woman was sitting quietly and observing, and for some reason I felt the need to talk with her.

Turned out, she is leading an amazing organization (Youth to Youth Initiative) which I just couldn’t stop asking about. I believed that was the reason why I felt the need to talk with her – that we are like-minded in what we do, in our convictions and beliefs. While listening I felt my body tingle – it’s a weird sensation although one I came to look out for as it means, the person talking found their calling and loves what they do.

At the end of the conference days, over some fish & chips (one of my favorite snacks) I learned that in addition she went through similar experiences I did at that time. She told me how she found her way and not to give up, and that she hopes that someday I will be at the same place. These words gave me a lot of strength, to pull through some hard times and also to be able to leave when it was needed. Thank you for the support ❤ and I wish you energy to continue the good work.

As a teenager I never understood the meaning of idols. She is one of the first idols in my life, and I hope that one day I will have the same strength. I now understand some people inspire us and help us be a better version of ourselves.

Do you have a person that motivates you to give your best and be the best version of yourself, who makes you want to improve even more? If you feel like it, write me, or let them know they inspire you.

Have a great weekend!
